International Dot Day - September 15, 2020

International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.

The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.

And each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you –the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do.

Students at OES enjoyed reading The Dot and creating their own dots throughout the week.

WELCOME BACK! 2020-2021 Edition

We are so excited to have students back in the school building!  Even though things are very different this year, we have had a great first week and are looking forward to many more.  Our theme this school year is "Shooting for the Stars."  We are working hard in the library to ensure students stay healthy and safe.  In the pictures, you will see that tables have been spread apart, with only two chairs at each table.  Students will select books from a collection at their table.  Cushions, stools, Lego tables, stuffed animals, etc. have been moved for the time being.  We have a shield in place at the checkout counter, and students will be required to wear a mask and use hand sanitizer upon entering the library.  Books that are returned will be sanitized and "quarantined" for two days before reentering circulation.  Library lessons and story time will be conducted in the classrooms, so students will only be coming into the library to select books.
