Visit by Chris Rumble

Chris Rumble will be visiting our school on Tuesday, March 3rd as part of our Read Across America activities.  You can check out his website at: http://www.chrisrumble.com/

2015 at Oakland Elementary  


  The week of March 2nd – 6th is the National Education Association’s Read Across America week, held in conjunction each year with Dr. Seuss’s (Theodor Seuss Geisel) birthday on March 2.  Oakland Elementary will be celebrating reading and the life of Dr. Seuss with the following activities and events:

  • Enjoying a reading show presented by author, illustrator, musician, & speaker Chris Rumble on Tuesday, March 3rd. ***If you are interested, an order form for Chris Rumble’s books is attached.  He will autograph each book that is purchased.  Order forms and money should be turned in on the day of his visit – Tuesday, March 3rd.
  • Reading and sharing books by Dr. Seuss during library time.
  • Distributing Read Across America bookmarks and other treats to students.
  • Eating special Dr. Seuss foods in the cafeteria.
  • Visiting with “the CAT in the HAT.”
  • Participating in student contests:
Kindergarten and First Grades – “Find the Missing Cat in the Hat”
           Students will look for hidden cats in hats around the school during the week and them into the  
           library for a prize.

Second, Third, and Fourth Grades – “Dr. Seuss Trivia”
            Students will be given 5 trivia questions about Dr. Seuss to answer.The names of students with   
            the correct answers will go into a basket for prize drawings.
  • Dressing up for a CHARACTER PARADE - This will be held on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 4th, in conjunction with South Carolina’s Walk to School Day.  Students and teachers can dress up as a character in a book.  Students will need to carry a copy of the book with them during the parade.
