Read Across America Week 2022

READ ACROSS AMERICA

2022 at Oakland Elementary

Ahoy, Matey!  The week of February 28th - March 4th is the National Education Association’s Read Across America week.  This year, we will have a pirate – themed week in honor of author Melinda Long and her visit to our school on Wednesday.  Oakland Elementary will be celebrating reading with the following activities and events:

  • Enjoying a visit and presentation by author Melinda Long on Wednesday, March 2nd.
  • Wearing your favorite pirate attire to school!  Pirate Dress Up Day is Wednesday, March 2nd.
  • Distributing bookmarks and other treats to students.
  • Participating in student contests:

Kindergarten and First Grades – “Find the Missing Treasure Chest”

Students will look for hidden pirate treasure chests around the school during the week and turn them into the library for special gold coins.

Second, Third, Fourth & Fifth Grades – “Pirate Trivia”

Students will be given 5 trivia questions about pirates to answer.  The names of students with the correct answers will go into a basket for prize drawings.

We are looking forward to a fun, “shiver me timbers” week of reading and learning!
