SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR – APRIL 2023

 Oakland Elementary

We are excited about our upcoming spring Book Fair!  Students that bring money (most books are at least $5) will be able to shop at the book fair during their class’s weekly scheduled library time.  The fair will run for one week, from April 24-28.  SALES TAX MUST BE ADDED TO PURCHASES THIS YEAR!  Unfortunately, parents will not be able to shop with their children during the school day unless you sign up to volunteer for a time slot through our PTA and have completed a District Two background check.  However, if you would like to shop with your child, the fair will be open to families during Fine Arts Night on TUESDAY, 4/25 from 5:30-7:00 pm.   In addition, an online shopping option is available April 20 – May 3 at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/oaklandelementaryschool8  You can also add money to your child’s eWallet at this OES Scholastic site (see back of this flyer for info on the eWallet).  Please make sure that you are linked to Oakland when you shop online.  We appreciate your support of our Scholastic Book Fair!

Read Across America Week @ OES

Read Across America 2023 at OES

During the week of February 27 - March 3, we will celebrate “Reading Is For Everyone” with special activities at Oakland.

Monday: Let's celebrate that reading takes us places!

Activity: Dress in Hawaiian shirts or tacky tourist clothes to “travel” with a book.

Tuesday: Let's celebrate that reading is amazing...and so are you!

Activity: Wear mismatched socks to celebrate how our differences make us unique.

Wednesday: Let's celebrate that reading is relaxing.

Activity: Dress in your jammies to get cozy when you read today.

Thursday: Let's celebrate that reading is active.

Activity: Dress up to celebrate how you like to be active (exercise clothing or team jersey). Reading “jogs” our minds.

Friday: Let's celebrate that reading makes our future bright.

Activity: Wear neon colors or your favorite OES shirt because our students have a bright future ahead!

Students will also receive a special bookmark during their library visit, and classrooms will participate in a door decorating contest.  We can’t wait to see all of the creative reading-related door displays.  The winning classrooms will receive prizes.
