During the week of March 3-7, we will celebrate “Reading Is For Everyone” with special activities at Oakland.
Monday: Let's celebrate that reading is active.
Activity: Dress up to celebrate how you like to be active (exercise clothing or team jersey). Give your brain a workout! The authors of #JustaChicken will be here to help us kick off the week! (More info about our author visit is attached.)
Tuesday: Let's celebrate that reading is amazing... and so are you!
Activity: Wear mismatched socks to celebrate how our differences make us unique.
Wednesday: Let's celebrate that reading is entertaining.
Activity: Dress up as your favorite book character (school appropriate).
Thursday: Let's celebrate that reading is relaxing.
Activity: Dress in your jammies (no slippers) & snuggle up with a good book today.
Friday: Let's celebrate that reading makes our future bright.
Activity: Wear neon colors or your favorite OES shirt because our students have a bright future ahead!
Students will also receive a special bookmark during their library visit. We are looking forward to a fun-filled week!
International Dot Day, a global celebration of creativity, courage and collaboration, began when teacher Terry Shay introduced his classroom to Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot on September 15, 2009.
The Dot is the story of a caring teacher who dares a doubting student to trust in her own abilities by being brave enough to “make her mark”. What begins with a small dot on a piece of paper becomes a breakthrough in confidence and courage, igniting a journey of self-discovery and sharing, which has gone on to inspire countless children and adults around the globe.
And each year on International Dot Day – with the help of people just like you –the inspiration continues. What started as a story in the pages of a book is transforming teaching and learning around the world as people of all ages re-discover the power and potential of creativity in all they do.
Students at OES enjoyed reading The Dot and creating their own dots throughout the week. We also read the book Ish by Peter Reynolds.
