SUMMER READING CELEBRATION

110 Students participated in the Summer Reading Celebration on Thursday afternoon.  Students made and ate S'mores and then enjoyed some extra time on the playground.  I am proud of these students for keeping up with their reading over the summer!

Students that completed the OES Summer Reading requirements were treated to a celebration on Friday, September 8th.  Students enjoyed an ice cream treat and some extra time on the playground.  We are thankful for the beautiful weather and for our wonderful PTA volunteers that helped! 

Summer Reading Celebration 2016

Seventy-one students participated in our Summer Reading Celebration last Friday afternoon.  These students either completed the OES Summer Reading sheet or participated in the Summer Learning Academy.  These students were treated to watermelon and orange slices.  Unfortunately, the weather was stormy, and we were unable to go outside for extra recess time.  Students still had an enjoyable time though!

"Building a Bright Future: Minds Under Construction"

v  Oakland Elementary (K – 3^rd graders only): This year for summer reading, students will log in books by “building” a brick wall on the back of this paper.  Students must write the date and title of each book as it is completed, and parents must initial each brick.  All papers must be turned in to the media center by Friday, August 19^th and must be completed entirely to receive a summer reading celebration.  Summer reading is extremely important to help maintain what your child has learned this year and to help prepare him/her for next school year.  Have a great summer, and READ, READ, READ!

v  Boiling Springs Public Library: The Children’s Summer Reading Program is for birth through 12 year-olds. Kids read books, fill in their reading records, and earn cool prizes. It’s that easy! There are no reading lists – everyone gets to read the books that they want to read.  The Program starts on the last day of school and ends July 31st. v  Camp Wonderopolis: An exciting chance to explore, play, and keep learning through the summer arrives in June at Camp.Wonderopolis.org! Camp Wonderopolis™ combines the excitement of summer camp with the joy and pride in achievement — all completely free. Campers will explore different tracks of science and build their vocabulary, background knowledge, and literacy skills along the way.   Register for free at http://camp.wonderopolis.org/.

SUMMER CELEBRATION

   Students that completed the summer reading treasure map, Camp Wonderopolis, and/or the Summer Learning Academy were treated to a watermelon party and extra recess time today.  We are proud of our students that took extra initiative to learn more over the summer break!  Here are some pictures from the celebration:

v  Oakland Elementary (K – 3^rd graders only): This year for summer reading, students will be going on a treasure hunt and will complete a treasure map.  Parents must write the date in each box as the activity is completed and then sign at the bottom of the map before it is returned in August.  All maps must be turned in to the media center by Friday, August 21^st to receive prizes.  Summer reading is extremely important to help maintain what your child has learned this year and to help prepare him/her for next school year.  Have a great summer, and READ, READ, READ!  (EXTRA COPIES OF THE TREASURE MAP ARE IN THE FRONT OFFICE AT OES.)

Summer Celebration

Summer Celebration for those students that completed their Summer READO sheet, Wonderopolis Camp, &/or Summer Learning Academy.  Congrats to these students for continuing to learn & grow over the summer!
